Track 2: Yoga for Pelvic Imbalances, Sciatica & Scoliosis
Are yoga teachers missing out on one of the greatest opportunities to advance their teaching skills and build a solid yoga teaching niche?
With the worst of the Covid epidemic seemingly behind us and more teachers return to the studios, we find that we are faced with many of the same problems before:
Too few students to make ends meet, drop-in classes that mix beginners with experienced students, lack of retention, difficulty getting the word out, inability to effectively serve students' needs, and on and on and on.
That's the bad news. The good news is that behind these issues lies one big misunderstanding. And, if we learn to address this, we can not only serve the needs of our students better, we can build a solid yoga teaching niche where students will return again and again - with very little need to market your classes.
It is this: The assumption that you can teach yoga in individual stand-alone classes and not courses. That model will work if you live in an area with an abundance of young, fit, slender people with previous yoga experience.
But it doesn't work AT ALL when it comes to teaching what is hands down the largest audience for yoga:
Aging baby boomers and the not-so-fit, young or slender who are looking for ways to improve health and wellness.
And that is by far the largest potential audience of yoga teachers.
The only problem? Yoga teachers have not been trained to serve the unique needs of this demographic. And this is causing us as a profession to lose out on one of the largest opportunities to expand and solidify the yoga teaching profession.
Most people over the age of 50 fall victim in one way or other to the epidemic of back pain, poor posture, achy joints, growing stiffness, limited mobility, and increased susceptibility to falls and injuries.
But people are catching on to the fact that this is not just a normal “part of getting older.” There are numerous things we can do to slow the degenerative processes the lie at the root of most aging-related changes.
In fact, if we learn the right techniques, it is possible to rebuild our body and reset our aging trajectory and start down a better aging path.
And, importantly, if you’re a yoga teacher, you can build a successful teaching niche showing other people how to reset their aging trajectory and build their unique aging success path.
How? Well, changing your aging trajectory simply requires understanding the hidden causes that trigger the vicious cycle of aging, These are the factors that slowly trap us in limited mobility, growing aches, an increasingly stooped and unflattering posture and/or chronic back pain.
Once you learn how to slow or reverse the underlying dynamics that accelerate the aging process, you can become one of the privileged "Superagers," i.e., people empowered to stay well and healthy well into their older years.
This is particularly the case of issues that lie at the root of degenerative changes in the spine and back that lead to back pain and mobility issues over time.
The only problem? To effectively teach to the vast wellness market, you need to learn how to address the unique needs of this group of people. And this cannot be done in individual, stand-along classes. You must learn how to teach yoga in courses, not classes.
The fitness profession has long since caught on to the fact that the wellness market of aging baby boomers and the not-so-fit crowd is by far the largest market for their services. So why is yoga lacking behind?
One of the main reasons is that the training yoga teachers need to serve the unique needs of this market simply is not easily available. Most yoga teacher training courses target the young, fit, flexible and slender. But when it comes to serve the needs of people with the typical American body, well, most yoga teachers just don't have the training needed to teach effectively to this demographic.
The knowledge of how to teach yoga effectively to serve the needs of the wellness market is out there, but it is not that easy to come by. It is developed by a select handful of teachers who typically combine four to five decades of yoga teaching experience with a health professional background or other advanced training.
But typically, these teachers specialize in one area of advanced work, and to study with them, you'd literally have to travel all over the country for years to accumulate the knowledge needed to serve the wellness audience.
This is why we created the Yoga Wellness Suite of Advanced Yoga Teacher Certification Programs.
The Yoga Wellness Advanced Yoga Teaching Training programs offer training in specific areas of wellness, compiling the skills of top teachers in the respective areas.
One of the most sought-after areas in the wellness market are yoga practices for back issues like posture improvement, sciatica, and adult-onset, degenerative scoliosis.
For this reason, we are pleased to invite you to join us for our new groundbreaking Yoga Wellness certification course with leading yoga therapists Doug Keller, Elise Browning Miller, Robin Rothenberg and other pioneers in integrating cutting-edge Western knowledge with yoga techniques for effective back care.
The Ultimate Yoga Back Care System represents a paradigm shift in how to approach aging with a special focus on addressing the particular issues that undermine our health and mobility over time.
Learn about the subclinical processes that accelerate aging of your spine and how that spills over into numerous age-related conditions - and not just back pain! - that you really don’t want to have.
As part of the certification training, you will learn to teach a Yoga Wellness Course wtih The 7 Steps to Posture Improvement. You will learn:
1) How to observe the common postural patterns that are affecting the structural balance of students
2) how to adapt poses to enable students to practice comfortably within the range of their limitations, and
3) how to structure your teaching in incremental steps to help students progress over time.
4) how to help students develop greater body awareness to make their practice rich and empower them and motivate them to continue.
Teaching yoga courses enables students to go through a more in-depth, progressive learning process and addresses most of the problems beginning students have no matter their age.
Teaching in courses also enables you to build incremental steps of learning, so the students can gradually pick up the skills and experience they need to practice the poses.
Students can enjoy their practice and enjoy progressing instead of forcing themselves into a pose they are not ready for, and the class can progress together in relation to the theme of the course.
A course also forces a commitment. When students have signed up and paid for a course with a series of classes, they are much more likely to stick to it, creating a much more tenable learning situation for both teacher and student.
In fact, if you teach the 8-session Yoga Wellness course on Yoga for Posture Improvement: The 7 Steps to Better Posture to nine students just once, you will earn your entire investment in the Certification Track back!
